Happy Mother's Day

12"x 9" oil on canvas

On the face of it, this might seem a little insane, but this image is my loving tribute to my mom.  It hangs in my living room, and it feels very sweet to me.

The color doesn't translate well at all in photographs. It's softer, more hazy, more blushed than it appears here.

I painted it somewhere between 2004 and 2007.  It was born of a dream.  A total lament of a dream.  But my mother was in it and she was a soothing, comforting presence.   This image, sort of a personal Pietà came out of that dream, and, for me, still conveys a sense of that soothing and comfort - even though it might appear to depict a couple of mummy fish, or something.
